Story 3: Frustration – A Dragonman and Professor Magic Adventure

Prologue

“Goddammit!” Thundergirl howled. I laughed.

“Wow,” I said calmly. “You suck at this game.”

“No, you’re… argh! Cheater!”

“I’m not cheating. You just suck,” I said with a smirk. Thundergirl glared at me, and I could feel her frustration emanating off her in waves. One of the downsides of being a telepath as powerful as her means her emotions radiate off her. I took a dramatic sip of my coffee, then quickly no-scoped her in the game.

“What the fuck?” Thundergirl said.

“Wow,” I heard Dragonman say behind me. “That was embarrassing.”

“Shut it, you big lizard,” Thundergirl said, scowling at the game. “You would be getting stomped just as bad as I am.” Dragonman smiled and took a swig of his coffee. Video games were harder for him, given that his hands were too big for the controllers. He preferred to watch and make comments on our gameplay instead.

“What’s going on in here?” a sleepy voice said. I looked over to see Blue Fox walk in. Wow, she was not a morning person. Her hair, normally immaculate, was a tangled mess. Her eyes had dark circles under them, and she was dressed in baggy sweatpants and sweatshirt.

“Morning, Blue!” I said, headshotting Thundergirl without looking.

“What the fuck!?” she yelled.

“Holy shit,” Dragonman said, sounding impressed.

“You’re playing this game again?” Blue Fox asked.

“Thundergirl was talking shit, so we had to settle this like adults,” I explained. Blue Fox came over and checked the score.

“Silverbolt. You know you’re not allowed to use the sniper rifle in game,” she chided.

“She’s not,” Dragonman said. “She’s using the pistol.”

“Wow,” Blue Fox said. She walked over to curl up on the couch next to Dragonman. Thundergirl looked up from the game to look at Blue Fox.

“Isn’t that my mug?” she asked.

“Yeah, because someone keeps putting mine on the top shelf,” Blue Fox said, glaring at Dragonman.

“Damn,” he said, hiding his smile poorly. “That’s mean,” she punched him in the arm.

“Is that green tea?” I asked, recognizing the smell.

“Yeah,” she said. “It’s better for you than coffee. How come you Americans never drink tea?”

“Tea belongs in the harbor in this country,” I responded. Dragonman laughed.

“Atta girl!” he boomed proudly.

“Mail call!” Lab Rat said, walking in with a bundle of mail.

“Did I get anything?” I asked, firing a shot in the game to blow up a barrel and killing Thundergirl again, drawing out a stream of cuss words from her.

“No.” Lab Rat said. “You know, hiding behind explosive barrels isn’t a good way to win.”

“Shut up, Rat.” Thundergirl snarled. Lab Rat frowned.

“I’m only trying help,” he said innocently.

“What came in the mail today?” Dragonman asked, changing the subject.

“Uhh, Sports Illustrated,” he said with confusion. “Who…?” Blue Fox leapt up and snatched it from him, only to sit down and eagerly sift through the pages.

“Uhh, okay.” Lab Rat said. “More bills, some deal offer from a computer store for the Professor… a package for Thundergirl… and this letter came for you, Dragonman.”

“Ah, I was getting worried about this.
